Guest Post: Great idea for surf skiers
I get given a lot of stuff to play with here at sydneysurfski.com, and most of it is pretty good. Some of it is not so good. So this year, rather than give the paddler in your life something that will end up at a garage sale in January, give them something from the “good list”. Just to be absolutely clear, this is the “good list”!
First of the rank is some products from Lifeproof.
Let me start by saying, I don’t carry my iPhone when I paddle, so testing these was a novel experience. But if I’m doing some further offshore ocean paddling soon then that may change. Tucked inside your PFD pocket, you can be sure you’ll never lose your phone again.
The Lifeproof case I had was in manly black, but there’s a range of colours available. The case itself is ruggedised plastic with a clear, thick touchscreen protector that fits over the iPhone’s screen. The case comes in two pieces which take some effort to put together, but once done, it’s also a tough ask to get it off, which is a good thing given it’s designed primarily to keep water out. There’s a cap for the earphone plug and a latch covering the cable input point that also acts as a final lock for the case.
There’s no doubting it works, but all this waterproofness comes at cost – basic usability. The screen cover is thick and strong, but it took me several attempts on occasion to get the functions on the phone to activate. But this is a small niggle given the primary function of this case is for heavy duty use.
A Lifeproof case is a great idea for surf skier wanting to carry their iPhones with them when they paddle. They’re available through local online distributor Maximise Technology.
